Impressionistic-Water Lillies Floral

 Close ups

Oil on 5x7 canvas panel. Tons of texture.

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Maureen was the gracious host this week who provided a bunch of great photos.

I decided to try the water lilies. Since I seldom do florals, thought I should do it in a style and technique which are strangers to me also......impressionism and the fracturing technique. The fracturing technique is the style belonging to Julie Ford Oliver.
I'm not overjoyed at my result. But, hey...it's all about learning.

Red Cups-Figurative

 Close ups

Graphite on paper...approx 6 1/5x5
This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Lin was the gracious host this week who provided a bunch of great photos.

I went with a couple on the beach. Intriguing to me thinking of all they've been through together.

I did another graphite mainly because of time constraints. This is approx. 6.5x5.5. I used colored pencil on the cups for surprise/shock value. Creates interest.

Dual Portraits

 Close ups

Graphite on paper...approx 6x6.

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Valri was the gracious host this week who provided a bunch of great photos.

Even though Valri and Mackenzie aren't officially blood related ( her fiance is the grandfather), I suspect a lot of love and bonding are in the offing. This just seemed like a great pair for a dual portrait.

Just a sketch in graphite and a wee bit of color pencil for variety and accent.
Approx. 6x6.

Smokey-In Memoriam

 Close ups

Acrylic on 10x8 gesso board.

I know from firsthand experience what a hold these four legged members of the family can have on the heart.

“Such short little lives our pets have to spend with us, and they spend most of it waiting for us to come home each day.
It is amazing how much love and laughter they bring into our lives and even how much closer we become with each other because of them.”..... John Grogan

“If there are no dogs in Heaven, then when I die I want to go where they went.”......Will Rogers

This lovable dog belonged to the son of the neighbor who helps me so much. The son's name is Mike, and he's been a great help with my computer woes...I'm a neanderthal at computer savvy.

Mike...I hope this painting will bring you and your family some sweet smiles of remembrance.

Shade Hog-Lambs

 Close ups

Oil on 5x7 canvas panel.

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Gail was the gracious host this week who provided a bunch of great photos.

I liked the grouping of the lambs in this one. Very interesting shadows on the lambs plus those cast on the wall.

Gail's challenge was to accentuate color in the manner of Vickie McMurry.

I looked up Vickie McMurry's art and loved it. So for the challenge, I gave my color a bit of a boost.

Soulful Eyes -Beagle-Dog

 Close ups

Oil on 7x5 canvas panel.

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Kathy was the gracious host this week who provided a bunch of great photos.

This is Wylan. Kathy said the rescue she got him from in Canada said he was a day away from being put to sleep in a high kill shelter. Wylan looks so thankful to have been saved. I have been owned by several beagles in years past, so I know this expression pretty well.

 Close ups

Oil on 7x5 canvas panel.

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Jean was the gracious host this week who provided a bunch of great photos.

Just couldn't resist the colorful rooster! Plenty of thick paint for texture!
This was a lot of fun to paint!

The Ride-Figurative

 Close ups

 Oil on 7x5 canvas panel.

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Ai, from Thailand, was the gracious host this week who provided a bunch of colorful photos!

I settled on doing the rider. The toughest problem was trying to straighten out the shadows and legs as I eliminated the "horse whisperer" walking on the other side. Then, making up the background is always a challenge for me.

Here's the original photo

Bucket Full Of Treasure-Boy Figurative

 Close ups

Oil on 7x5 canvas panel.

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Oty, from Greece, was the gracious host this week who provided a bunch of colorful photos!
I thought the beach scene with Christos was great! I wasn't overly cautious to get everything just right...I was after expressive looseness (actually, I was short of time tonight... ). I just kept adding notes of paint attempting to match the feel of the ref.

Dinner Guest-Cat And Mouse

 Close ups

Oil on 7x5 canvas panel.

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Dewi was the super host with super reference photos.

I really liked the concentrating cat! I wondered what would he be looking at so intently?? So I added the guest.

This is oil on a 7x5 canvas panel.

Inviting Spot-Street Scene

 Close ups

Oil on 7x5 canvas panel.

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. A super watercolorist name Kay was the gracious host this week who provided a bunch of colorful photos! She issued a challenge to paint a subject that you don't normally do. I painted something I haven't done very often...the sidewalk scene. Nary a dog, lion, or cow to be seen ! I enjoyed it once I was into it.

I used a lot of painting knife plus heavily loaded brush work to give this piece an impasto texture.

I really wanted to do a painting of these goslings, But since I was running short of time went a quicker route...graphite.
